Martyrdom of Imam Hasan Askari(a.s.)

8th of Rabi al-Awwal 1432 A.H. - Martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hasan Askari (a.s.) - the 11th Holy Imam.

Martyrdom of Imam Hasan Askari(a.s.)
Imam al-Askari (a.s.) lived during the times of the Abbasid caliphs, Mu'taz, Muhtadi and Mu'tamid. The Holy Imam (A.S.) suffered more afflictions, confinement, terrorism and pursuit by the three above mentioned brutal and cruel caliphs and was, also, exposed to imprisonment at different times before them. The last caliph, whom the Holy Imam (a.s.) lived with, Mu'tamid, was dissolute, disposed to entertainment and pleasures, singing, and committing the forbidden. All these caused people to hate him, The Holy Imam (A.S.) suffered different kinds of troubles and torments in the hands of the caliph, Mu'tamid, who surrounded him with intensive security forces to keep an eye on him and pursue those who wanted to contact him.The reason that caused the Abbasids to be more envious against the high position of the Holy Imam (a.s.), among the Ummah, was their being afraid of his son, the Awaited Imam Mahdi (atfs). They knew that Imam would be the son of Imam Askari (a.s.) whom he referred to in one of his letters:"They thought that they could kill me in order to cut off my offspring, but Allah denied their sayings and praise be to Allah." The anger of the caliph, Mu'tamid, increased more when he saw that the whole ummah glorified, and showed great respect and superiority to the Holy Imam (A.S.); and the Shias more thant the Abbasids. On the other side, the caliph, Mu'tamid was greatly hated by the whole ummah. Therefore, he decided to annihilate the Holy Imam (a.s.) and assassinate him.
Imam Abu Muhammad Hassan al-Askari (a.s.) was poisoned by the caliph, Mu'tamad, and, thus, suffered severely and was martyred on 8th of the month of Rabi' Awwal in the year 260 (A.H.). At the time of his death, he was twenty-eight years old. He was buried in the house in which his father was buried in Samarra'. He left behind his son - Living Holy Awaited Saviour Imam Muhammad al-Mahdi (atfs) the one who is awaited to bring about the heavenly rule of truth in the whole world.

26th Rajab 1432 A.H. - Death anniversary of Hazrat Abu Talib(a.s.) - Mohsin-e-Islam and protector of Prophet Mohammad(sawaw).
Another date quoted in history is that of 25th of Rabi-al-Awwal.

Hazrat Abu Talib(a.s.) – Mohsin-e-Islam
Hazrat Abu Talib(a.s.) was the uncle of our beloved Prophet Mohammad(sawaw) who took the responsibility of bringing up and nurturing the holy Prophet(sawaw). Right from the beginning, he protected the Prophet with all his energy. He was also the father of Imam Ali(a.s.).
In Sura waz-Zuha, Allah(swt) says: “Alam yajidka yateeman fa aawa” – “Did he not find you orphan and give you shelter?” (93,6). In major tafaseer of both Shia and Sunni ulemas, it is stated that this ayat refers to the protection and shelter provided by Hazrat Abu Talib(a.s.) when the Prophet became an orphan. Thus, this act of Hazrat Abu Talib(a.s.) was called by Allah(swt) His(swt) own act.
After the famous incident when Prophet Mohammad(sawaw) refused the offers of money, marriage and status from the Mushrikeen-e-Makkah, Hazrat Abu Talib(a.s.) gave his full support to the Prophet(sawaw) and provided him protection in that delicate era of Islam.
During the most troublesome days of Shaib Abi Talib, Hazart Abu Talib(a.s.) led the Quraish into isolation upon social boycott by the Mushrakeen-e-Makkah. During those three years, he used to place his sons in sleeping place of Prophet Mohammad(sawaw) during the night so that if there was an attack then his sons would be killed but the Prophet of Islam would be saved.

Hazrat Abu Talib(a.s.) – Momin-e-Quraish
Some people object that Hazrat Abu Talib(a.s.) never accepted Islam and never recited Kalma. I am quite amazed at their comments since they themselves never recited Kalma to become Muslims. Those born in Muslim families do not need to recite Kalma to become Muslims. There are no traditions in my knowledge that Imam Ali(a.s.) ever recited Kalma to become a Muslim. The one who has been a non-Muslim before really needs to recite Kalma to become a Muslim.
Now consider the following:
- Hazrat Abu Talib(a.s.) was the one who hosted the first dawah of Islam in his house – Dawat Zul Asheera. All the Dawahs hosted by any muslim now a days are in fact Sunnat of Hazrat Abu Talib(a.s.).
- He was the one who arranged the marriage of Prophet Mohammad(sawaw) with Hazrat Khadija(a.s.).
- He was the one who recited the Nikah of the Holy Prophet(sawaw) and that Nikah started with Hamd of Allah(swt) and praise for His Prophet(sawaw). It also referred to the Prophet-hood of Hazrat Ibrahim(a.s.), the Holy books sent by Allah(swt) and all praise to Allah(swt) to have ordained Hazrat Abu Talib(a.s.) in the progeny of  Hazrat Ibrahim(a.s.).
Just a word of thought for the objectionist – if Hazrat Abu Talib(a.s.) was not a muslim then how did Prophet Mohammad(sawaw) accept a Mushrik (Naozo billah) to recite his Nikah and even if it were so, why don’t the objectionists follow this Sunnat of the Holy Prophet(sawaw) now.
- He was the one who paid the Mehr of Hazrat Khadija on behalf of Prophet Mohammad(sawaw).
- According to Quranic instruction, a Muslim women cannot remain in the Nikah of a non-Muslim after accepting Islam neither can live with a non-Muslim. Hazrat Bibi Fatima bint-e-Asad remained in the Nikah of Hazrat Abu Talib(a.s.) until his death.
Another word of thought for the objectionist: It is accepted by all sects that Hazrat Bibi Fatima bint-e-Asad had accepted Islam so how did the Prophet(bpuh&hf) allow her to stay with Hazrat Abu Talib(a.s.)?
- As I stated above, Allah(swt) calls the protection of Hazrat Abu Talib(a.s.) as His(swt) own protection. In the entire Quran there is not one mention of any act of a Mushrik that Allah(swt) has called His own act.
- Finally, Prophet Mohammad(sawaw) has stated in a hadith that on the day of judgment the one who raises an orphan will be together with me in the heaven as these two fingers are (pointing to his two fingers).
Now where would be the one who raised the orphan who became the Prophet of Islam?

Aam-ul-Huzn
Hazrat Khadija(a.s.) and Hazrat Abu Talib(a.s.) died in the same year and the Prophet Mohammad(sawaw) was so saddened by their demise that he declared the year as Aam-ul-Huzn - the year of mourning.

Journey of Imam Hussain(a.s.) towards Karbala

Rajab 28th – Start of Journey of Imam Hussain (a.s.), his family members and companions towards Iraq.
After hatching the conspiracy and achieving ultimate martyrdom of Imam Hasan (a.s.), Moawiya started campaigning openly for the succession of his son Yazid to the office of Caliphate. Until that time he had always planned in secret about this intention. To materialize his plans, he started his campaign among his most trusted people in Syria where he had established his headquarters. Later on, his missionaries took the message to other parts of the Islamic world and with the help of lot of money and bribery he got support for the caliphate of Yazid from a number of important Islamic cities. After his death on 15th Rajab of the 60th Hijrah, Yazid sat on his throne and started the campaign of getting Baiyat of all muslims so that they would accept him as the Caliph. The materialistic personalities of that time came forward and accepted his caliphate. Among them were mostly the people who were known for their enmity towards the Ahl-e-Bait (a.s.) of our Prophet Mohammad (sawaw). The other group was of the people who were either coerced by force or treachery or their loyalties were bought through material offers.
When the campaign crossed the borders of Syria, instructions were sent to the Governor of Madina – Walid ibn-e-Aqba ibn-e-Abu Sufyan – as well to get the baiyat of Imam Hussain (a.s.). According to some historians, Yazid also mentioned that if Imam Hussain (a.s.) declines his baiyat then Walid should kill him and send his head to Syria.
Walid invited the Imam (a.s.) to his court and gave him the orders of Yazid and demanded his baiyat.  Imam (a.s.) replied “A person like me would never accept the baiyat of a person like Yazid”. In this statement, Imam (a.s.) gave a clear guideline for all the future time to come.
One of the advisors of Walid named Marwan bin Hakm incited Walid on getting Imam (a.s.) killed right there but Imam (a.s.) was joined by a few of his followers from Bani Hashim under the leadership of Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) and returned safely from the court.
Within a few days time, the political developments made it very clear that Yazid is going all out to either obtain the baiyat of Imam Hussain (a.s.) or to get him killed. Imam (a.s.) had the sanctity of Madina as well as the salvation of the religion of Islam in his mind, therefore, he decided to leave Madina and go towards Iraq. He asked for the preparation of a Caravan of his selected family members and his trusted friends and set off for this long journey on the 28th of Rajab.
Inshallah in future newsletters, details of the journey of Imam Hussain (a.s.) and his caravan will be presented. Since it is a day of grief and sorrow, I will relate some masaib of this event now.

Some words of Masaib
When Imam (a.s.) had made his decision to leave Madina, he went to the grave of his brother Imam Hasan (a.s.) with a very heavy heart. There he stayed for some time talking to his brother saying “O brother now your killers are after my blood. It looks like time for my martyrdom is near and I am leaving you now.”.  I imagine that Imam Hasan (a.s.) would have replied from his grave – O my brother I bid you farewell and give you my son Qasim to become your sadqa in Karbala.
After that Imam (a.s.) went to the grave of his grandfather, the Holy Prophet Mohammad(sawaw). He stayed there for a long time and wept a lot until he went to sleep. He saw the Prophet (sawaw) in his dream and said to him “O my grandfather, my salutations to you. The land of Madina has become small for me. Tyrants among your ummah are after my blood and I am leaving Madina with a heavy heart”.
Finally Imam Hussain (a.s.) came to the grave of his mother Hazrat Fatima Zahra (s.a.).  Historians write that Imam (a.s.) ran towards her grave just like a child runs toward his mother and he fell on her grave just like a child falls in the lap of the mother. Imam (a.s.) said “O my mother accept my last salam. I am leaving the land of Madina and would not come back. The prophecy of my grandfather is about to come true”. I imagine that Bibi Zahra (s.a.) would have said from her grave “O my beloved son, O the one whom I have raised by keeping awake in the night, I would not let you go alone. From this day I would not rest in my grave but I would accompany you throughout your journey.”
Historians write that throughout the journey various people reported to Imam (a.s.) that when everyone goes asleep during the night, we hear feminine voices of weeping and a bibi’s voice crying “Ya Hussain, Ya Hussain”. Imam (a.s.) told them “O my trusted companions this is my mother Zahra(a.s.) who is with me ever since I have left Madina”.
Ala Laanatullahe ala qaum-iz-zalimeen (May Allah’s curse be on the group that committed atrocities on Imam Hussain (a.s.) and his companions and family members)

Imam Ali Zain-al-Abideen (a.s.)

5th of Shabaan, the birth anniversary of Syed-us-Sajideen - Imam Ali Zain-al-Abideen (a.s.)- the fourth Holy Imam. This is a disputed date. More widely accepted date of his birth is 15th Jamadi-al-Awwal in the 38 Hijra.

His Birth and Titles
The 4th Imam after Imam Hussain (a.s.) was his son Imam Ali Zain-al-Abideen(a.s.). His mother was Bibi Shahr Bano who was a princess from Persia, the daughter of the Kind Yazd Gard II.
His title Zain-al-Abideen was granted to him by the Holy Prophet (sawaw) himself who mentioned that on the day of judgment a call for Zain-al-Abideen will be made and my son Ali bin al-Hussain (a.s.) will respond to the call saying "Labbaik". His other Title, Syed-us-Sajideen, was given because of his devotion to prayers.
He would pray for long durations especially during the nights and would pray a lot of prayers of gratitude - Namaz-e-Shukrana – for which he was also given the title of Sajjad.
Imam Sajjad (a.s.) spent the first 2 years of his life under the care of his grandfather Imam Ali(a.s.) and after his death in 40 A.H., he was brought up under the care of the 2nd Imam Hasan(a.s.). Imam Sajjad (a.s.) was married to Bibi Fatima (a.s.) - daughter of Imam Hasan(a.s.). Imam Hasan(a.s.) was martyred in 50 A.H. and the Imamate of Imam Hussain(a.s.) started which terminated on 10th Moharram 61 A.H. from where the Imamate of Imam Sajjad (a.s.) began.

Period of Imamate
Imam Sajjad (a.s.) was about 22 or 23 years old when the sad event of Karbala occurred. Allah(swt) so arranged that Imam Sajjad(a.s.) became severely ill before that battle and could not participate as a fighter. He asked the permission to fight in the battle but Imam Hussain (a.s.) told him that he had been assigned a different type of "Jihad" that was to start after the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (a.s.) - namely leading the women and children of the household of Prophet Mohammad (sawaw) into the bazars and courts of Kufa and Damascus. Imam Sajjad (a.s.) was made a prisoner of war together with the whole family of the Prophet Mohammad (sawaw). It was at this time that he was given the responsibility of Imamate and his was one of the most difficult times that any Imam had to see. Truly speaking, for him it would have been very easy to die on the battle field as a martyr than to be taken as prisoner of war and see all the humiliations thrown on him and on the womenfolk of the house of the Prophet (sawaw). However, he did what Allah (swt) wished him to do.
After the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (a.s.), the survival of Islam depended on Imam Zainul Abideen (a.s.), and that also at a tender age of 22. He had a very hard job of letting the world know the mission of Imam Hussain (a.s.) and exposing the evil intentions of Yazid and the Bani Umayyah. He had to keep the message of Islam alive and save it from being confused by the evil Bani Umayyah. The tradition of azadari-e-Imam Hussain (a.s.) which has continued from then on uptil today proves how successful Imam Sajjad (a.s.) was in his mission.

His Life upon returning back to Madina
Yazid had to free the Imam (a.s.) out of fear of his own rulership, therefore, Imam (a.s.) was still not completely safe from his evil designs even upon reaching back to Madina. Once in Madina, Imam (a.s.) gathered the people and told them the horrifying stories of Karbala and informed them that his father Imam Hussain(a.s.) and his companions were martyred and his family members were made prisoners and were taken from one city to another and branded as traitors.
Imam Sajjad (a.s.) started regular mourning session right from the day he arrived in Madina and apprised the people of the hard times that the family of the Prophet(sawaw) had to go through. Day in and day out, people used to go to Imam (a.s.) and present condolence and hear the events of Karbala. Once a visitor named Noman came to Imam (a.s.) and asked him which was the most difficult time he had to face and the Imam(a.s.) cried for a long time and three times said "AS-SHAAM AS-SHAAM AS-SHAAM". Another visitor asked him as to how long would he continue mourning and crying and he replied that Prophet Ayub (a.s.) had 12 sons and only one of them got lost and he know that he was still alive but he continued crying until his eyes became white and his back got bent - I had seen 18 members of my family being slaughtered around me like sheep and you ask me as to how long I would continue mourning.
During his remaining 34 years in Madina, Imam Sajjad (a.s.) concentrated only upon devoting himself to supplicating to Allah(swt) and spreading the events of Karbala through mourning on Imam Hussain (a.s.) in his daily life.

SAHIFA-E-KAMILA
Another task that Imam Sajjad (a.s.) did after coming back from Syria was that he started praying and saying supplications with full devotion. His devotion was so strong and felt by his companions and visitors that they started collecting his supplications which still exist by the name of SAHIFA-E-KAMILA. It is also know as SAHIFA-E-SAJJADIA. It consists of 54 Duas, 14 additional duas and 15 Munajaat.
In addition to the SAHIFA there are several other supplications of the Imam(a.s.) which appear under different cover names.

HIS MARTYRDOM
Even the quiet and solitude life of Imam (a.s.) was not tolerated by the rules of bani-ummaya. He was arrested one more time during his 34 years in Madina by Abdul Malik ibne Marwan who later released him after 3 days of detention in Damascus. Finally the cruel ruler Waleed bin Abdul Malik had him martyred by poison on 25 Muharram 95 A.H. in Madina.

Hazrat Abbas(a.s.)

4th of Shaban, the birth anniversary of Alamdar-e-Lashkar-e-Imam Hussain(a.s.) - Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) ibn-e-Imam Ali (a.s.).

Birth and Childhood
Although not an Imam nor regarded as one of the Masoom individuals (he is not within the circle of the 14 Infallibles), Hazrat Abbas ibne Ali (a.s.) possesses a great position in Islam.  Born in the immaculate family of the Prophet Muhammad(sawaw), he was the half-brother of two Imams – Hasan (a.s.) and Hussain (a.s.).
Some years after the martyrdom of Hazrat Fatima Zahra (s.a.), Imam Ali (a.s.) expressed his desire to his brother Aqeel ibn-e-Abi Talib (a.s.) to marry a women of a brave and chivalrous tribe. Hazrat Aqeel was very knowledgeable in tribe genealogy and he immediately proposed the name of Hazrat Fatima binte Hazam bin Khalid and the marriage took place in 24 Hijrah. Hazrat Fatimah gave birth to Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) on the 4th Shabaan, 26th Hijrah.
Imam Hussain (a.s.) was very attached to Hazrat Abbas(a.s.). When Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) was born, Hazrat Ali (a.s.) asked Imam Hussain (a.s.) to recite the adhaan and the iqamah in the ears of the child. Just his his father had not opened eyes after birth until the Prophet Mohammad (sawaw) arrived, Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) also did not open his eyes until Imam Hussain (a.s.) arrived. When he was in the arms of Imam Hussain (a.s.), the infant smiled and raised his arms. There were tears in Imam Hussain's (a.s.) eyes. Was it because he knew that the child was trying to say: "O Mawla I have come and will happily give these arms and my life for you and Islam".
In early childhood Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) would follow Imam Hussain (a.s.) like a shadow. When Imam Hussain (a.s.) was thirsty, Abbas (a.s.) would rush to bring him water. When Imam Hussain (a.s.) felt heat, Abbas (a.s.) would fan him with the hem of his cloak.

Hazrat Abbas(a.s.) at Battle of Siffin
At the battle of Siffeen, Abbas (a.s.) was very young - hardly eleven years old. Imam Hussain (a.s.) was fighting in the battle field. When Hazrat Abbas(a.s.) saw an enemy soldier approaching Imam Hussain (a.s.) from behind, he took a sword and rushed into the battle field and killed the enemy, at the same time crying out in a loud voice, "How can any one dare attack my Mawla while I am alive." He continued to fight maintaining his position behind Imam Hussain (a.s.).
One day he appeared fully disguised, masked and armored, on the battlefield. When Ibn-e-Shasa, a brave and famous Syrian fighter saw this masked person, he asked one of his seven sons to slay him. Instead, the son was quickly put down. Similarly, the other six sons tried to fight this masked warrior, but they all met the same fate.
Finally lbn-e-Shasa himself came forward and the manner in which he was also beaten, made all the other people stare in disbelief. They then thought this masked fighter to be Hazrat Ali (a.s.), and no one dared to come forward to fight. But, when Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) removed the mask, people were surprised to note that he was not Ali, but instead, Abbas, the inheritor of Hazrat Ali's gallantry.
Muawiya saw this and asked, "Who is that boy?" When he was told he was Abbas ibne Ali, he said, "By God! No one can fight like that at that age except a son of Ali!"

His youth
Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) grew up to be a tall and handsome man. He was so tall, that when he sat on a horse his feet touched the ground. He was so handsome that he was known as Qamar-e-Bani Hashim, the Moon of the family of Hashim.
Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) was also a valiant warrior. It was said that Muawiya did not dare invade Madina because of five men who were with Imam Hussain (a.s.) and could, together with their Imam, conquer a whole army. These were Muhammad Hanafia, a brother of Imam Hussain (a.s.), Hazrat Muslim ibn-e-Aqeel (a.s.), Abdullah Ibn-e-Jaffer (a.s.), Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) and Hazrat Ali ibn-al-Hussain (a.s.), our fourth Imam, Zainul Abideen (a.s.).
When Imam Hussain (a.s.) decided to leave Madina in the month of Rajab 60 Hijrah, he did not encourage Muhammad Hanafia and Abdullah Ibn-e-Jaffer to accompany him. He wanted to make sure that no one at the time or in the future would suggest that Hussain (a.s.) wanted to fight for the khilafah.
Just before Imam Hussain (a.s.) left Madina, Ummul Baneen (a.s.) summoned all her four sons and said to them, "My sons you must remember that while I love you, Imam Hussain (a.s.) is your Master. If Imam (a.s.) or his sisters or his children get injured or hurt while you are still alive, I will never forgive you." There were tears in Hazrat Abbas's (a.s.) eyes as he promised his mother that he and his brothers would lay down their lives for Imam Hussain (a.s.) and his children.

Titles of Hazrat Abbas (a.s.)
1- Qamar-e-Banihashem (THE MOON OF BANIHASHEM'S PROGENY)
This was his most famous nickname. The reason behind that was his good looking face which was resembled to the moon.
2- Saqqa' (THE ONE WHO PROVIDES WATER)
This is another of his famous nickname. Since he was dealing with bringing water to Imam Hussein (A.S)'s camps and supplying Imam's thirsty children with water, he was given this nickname.
3- Hamel-ul-Lava' (THE ONE WHO CARRIES THE FLAGS)
This nickname was given to him because he was the one who carried the flag in Imam Hussein (A.S)'s troop.
4- Raees-e-Askar-al-Hussein (THE COMMANDER OF IMAM HUSSAIN (A.S.)'S TROOPS)
This nickname was given to him because he was the commander of Imam Hussain (a.s.)'s troops.

Imam Hussain(a.s.)

3rd of Shabaan, - The birth anniversary of the third Holy Imam, Syed-us-Shuhada and the leader of the youth of the paradise, Imam Hussain (a.s.) ibn-e-Imam Ali (a.s.).

His Birth
One year after the birth of Imam Hasan (a.s.), Allah (swt) bestowed the house of Bibi Fatima (s.a.) and Imam Ali(a.s.) with the birth of Imam Hussain (a.s.) on 3rd Shabaan in the 4th Hijri. On hearing the news of his birth, the Prophet(sawaw) rushed to the house of Bibi Fatima (s.a.) and asked Asma binte Amees “O Asma, bring me my son”.
Bibi Asma brought Imam Hussain (a.s.) in a white piece of cloth and the Prophet (sawaw) took him in his arms and recited Azan in his right ear and Aqama in his left ear and then returned the baby to Asma.
Spontaneously he started weeping. Bibi Asma inquired the reason for his grief. The Prophet(sawaw) replied “O Asma this baby will be killed by a renegade group after me. Allah (swt) will not allow them to seek my shifaat. And Asma, do not give this news to my daughter Fatima since she has recently given birth to this baby.”
He (sawaw) then turned to Imam Ali (a.s.) and asked “How have you named my son”.  Imam Ali (a.s.) replied “How could I give a name to the baby when you are present.” In the meantime,
the Prophet (sawaw) received wahi in which Allah (swt) suggested the name HUSSAIN for the child and so it happened. This was the first time that a child was named HUSSAIN. The Prophet (sawaw) gave his tongue and then his finger in the mouth of the child to feed him and this practice continued in the future as well to feed the baby.
There is another tradition in Ilalus-Sharae where Prophet Muhammad (sawaw) had named Imam Hasan (a.s.) and Imam Hussain (a.s.) after the names of the sons of Prophet Harun (a.s.) - Shabbar and Shabbir which in Arabic are Hasan (a.s.) and Hussain (a.s.).

Greetings by Angels
On the birth of Imam Hussain (a.s.), archangel Jibreel (a.s.) came down with a large group of angels to present his greetings to the household of Propet Mohammad (sawaw). He was accompanied by a couple of angels who were castigated by Allah(swt) due to some tark-e-oola and they were forgiven by Allah (swt) due to the sanctity of the baby Imam (a.s.). Their names as mentioned by the historians are Fitrus and Dardayeel.
Shaikh Sadooq (May Allah sanctify his grave) quotes Imam Ja'far as Sadiq (a.s.) as saying that when Imam Hussain (a.s.) was born, Allah(swt) commanded Jibra'eel to descend upon the earth with a thousand Angels and congratulate the Prophet (sawaw) on His behalf and himself. Jibra'eel descended and on the way he passed by an island where an Angel named Fitrus, who was a bearer of the empyrean, lay there banished. Allah (swt) had once assigned a job to Fitrus who delayed it due to laziness; hence Allah (swt) took away his wings and expelled him to the island. Fitrus worshipped Allah (swt) there for seven hundred years until the time Imam Hussain(a.s.) was born.
When Fitrus saw Jibra'eel he inquired of him as to where was he going. Jibra'eel answered that, "Allah, the Exalted, has bestowed His Blessings (Imam Hussain) upon Mohammad (sawaw), thus Allah has commanded me to go and congratulate him on His behalf and myself." Fitrus said, "Then O Jibra'eel! Take me too alongwith you to the presence of the Prophet, perhaps he might pray for me." Ji¬bra'eel lifted him up and brought him to the Holy Prophet (sawaw).
When he reached there he offered felicitations to him on behalf of Allah (swt) and him¬self, then he presented the matter of Fitrus. The Prophet (sawaw) commanded Fitrus to touch himself with the body of Imam Hussain (a.s) and arise. Fitrus did so and ascended upwards saying, "O Prophet of Allah! This son of yours will be mercilessly killed by your nation. Therefore, it is incumbent upon me in exchange of this favour that I recompense.
Hence there is no person who visits his grave except that I receive him, and there is no Muslim who offers salutations to him or who prays for him except that I take it to his presence and carry his message.".
Saying this Fitrus flew away. In another narrative it is related that Fitrus flew away saying, "Who is like me? For I am the freed one of Hussain (a.s), the son of Ali (a.s.) and Fatemah (a.s.), whose Grandfather is Ahmed(sawaw)" Sayyed ibne Tawoos says in Malhoof that there was no Angel in the Heavens who did not turn up to congratulate the Prophet (sawaw) on the birth of Imam Hussain (a.s.) and condole him for his martyrdom, and revealed the reward reserved for the Imam.

Aqeeqa and other rites
On the seventh day of the birth of Imam Hussain (a.s.), Prophet Mohammad (sawaw) went to the house of Bibi Fatima (s.a.) and a lamb was slaughtered to mark the aqeeqa. On the order of Prophet (sawaw), the head of the baby was shoven and silver in the equivalent weight was given as sadqa.

Some Quranic verses in praise of Imam Hussain(a.s.)
1. "Innama yureedallahu le-yuzhiba ankamur rijsa ahlal baiti wa utah-harukum tat-heera"
(Sura Ahzab 33:33 Part)
Translation: And Allah only wishes to keep away all abomination from you, ye members of the Family, and to make you pure and spotless.
Almost all schools of thought in Islam believe that this ayat was revealed in praise of Prophet Mohammad (sawaw), Imam Ali (a.s.), Bibi Fatima (s.a.), Imam Hasan (a.s.) and Imam Hussain (a.s.).
2. "Innallaha wa malaikatahu yu sal-loona alan nabi ya ayyuhal lathina aamano sallu alaihi wa sallamu tasleemat" (Sura Ahzab 33:56)
Translation: Allah and His angels send blessings on the Prophet: O ye that believe! Send ye blessings on him, and salute him with all respect.
Prophet Mohammad (sawaw) was asked by his companions “How should be send salawat on you?” and the Prophet (sawaw) replied “Say – Allahumma Salle ala Mohammadin wa aale Mohammad”.
3. "Qul la as-alokum alehe ajran il-al mawad-data fil qurba" (Ash-Shura 42:23 Part)
Translation: Say: "No reward do I ask of you for this except the love of those near of kin."
When Prophet Mohammad (sawaw) was asked as to who are your QURBA with whom love has been made obligatory for all believers, Prophet(sawaw) replied they are Ali(a.s), Fatima (s.a.), Hasan (a.s.) and Hussain (a.s.).
4. "Faman haajaka feehe min baada ma jaa-oka minal ilme faqul ta-aalu nad-o abna-ana wa abnaokum wa nisa-ana wa nisaokum wa anfusana wa anfusakum summa nabtahal fanajal lanatullahe alal kazibeen" (Aal-e-Imran 3:61)
Translation: If any one disputes in this matter with thee, now after (full) knowledge Hath come to thee, say: "Come! let us gather together,- our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves: Then let us earnestly pray, and invoke the curse of Allah on those who lie!"
When this ayat was revealed, Prophet Mohammad took Imam Ali (a.s.) in accordance with “anfusana”, Bibi Fatima (s.a.) in accordance with “nisa-ana” and Imam Hasan (a.s.) and Imam Hussain (a.s.) in accordance with “abna-ana” as per will of Allah(swt) in the mubahila against the Jews.
This is only a small sample of ayats which were revealed in praise of Ahle Bait (a.s.) in which Imam Hussain (a.s.) glitters as a bright shining star.

Hazrat Zainab(s.a.)

1st of Shabaan - the birth anniversary of Hazrat Zainab (s.a.) bint-e-Imam Ali (a.s.). nother date mentioned in history is of 5th Jamadi-us-Sani for her date of birth.

About Hazrat Zainab (s.a.)
Sayyeda Zainab(a.s), the daughter of Imam Ali (a.s) and Sayyeda Fatima (a.s.), was an exemplary Woman of great ability, intelligence, knowledge , insight, courage and perseverance.  She was born in the Prophet's (sawaw) family, the most outstanding figure in human history. The Prophet's wife Sayyeda Khadija was her maternal grandmother, and her paternal grandmother was Fatima daughter of Assad, who mothered and nursed the Prophet (sawaw).
Hazrat Zainab (as) was a brilliant star that received rays of holiness from the five suns(Panjetan Pak (a.s.). It was through her holy origins and pious edification that she manifested so great a fortitude in Karbala (Iraq).  The life of the daughter of Hazrat Al-Zahra (a.s.) was always laden with hardships, but she never feared coping with difficulties and this enhanced her endurance and elevated her soul.

The Birth of Janabe Zainab (a.s.)
She was born on the 5th of Jamadil Awwal (or 1st Shabaan) in the 5th Hijra, giving her a unique birth date of 5.5.5.  When Hazrat Zainab (a.s) was born, Imam Ali (a.s.) asked for the Prophet's advice as to her name, the same as it was in the case of Hassan (a.s.) and Hussain (a.s.). They gave Zainab in swaddling clothes to the Prophet(sawaw) and he waited for Allah's message. Gabriel appeared and said she should be named Zainab. The Prophet (saww) kissed her.

Janabe Zainab (a.s.) - the sage of Bani Hashim
In her childhood, Zainab studied with the Prophet(sawaw) , and when Imam Ali (a.s) moved to Kufa, the respected women of Kufa requested Imam Ali (a.s) through their husbands to allow them to benefit from the knowledge of Hazrat Zainab (a.s.).  Imam Ali (a.s) complied with their request and the interested women learned from her the expounding wisdom of the Holy Qur'an.
Ibn Abbas quoted Hazrat Zahra (a.s.) as having said that her daughter Zainab, like her father, was unparalleled in literary eloquence and courage. The speech she delivered in the assembly in presence of Yazid was at the zenith of eloquence and impressiveness. (Refer Famous Women, Dr. Ahmed Beheshti, p.51)
After the demise of the Holy Prophet(sawaw), there came the period of distress and hardship in the life of Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) She stood by her mother as far as the question of supreme mandate of her father was concerned. When her mother delivered the Fadak sermon, she was only 4 years old, but narrated the sermon so lucidly and expressively that the people from Bani Hashim remembered it by heart.
After the martyrdom of Hazrat Zahra (a.s.), Zainab (a.s.) suffered many calamities. Their house was attacked and the usurpation of her father's rightful caliphate was a great shock to her. Her sublime devotion to the cause of Allah and Islam endeared her to her father Ali(a.s.), which reminded of her mother's endearment to her father, the Holy Prophet(sawaw).  All this was worthy of the grand status of Zainab (a.s.).

Janabe Zainab(a.s.)'s Marriage
Abdullah son of Ja'far Tayyar, a nephew of Imam Ali (a.s.) asked for Zainab's hand, and Imam Ali (a.s.) accepted it. Her marriage settlement was equal to that of her mother's.  Imam Ali (a.s.) told Ja'far not to prevent Zainab (a.s.) from visiting Hussain (a.s.) whenever she so desired and not to prevent her from going on a journey with Imam Hussain (a.s).
Although Zainab's husband was a man of means, she lived a modest life, not a life of luxury. She and her husband were charitable to the needy people. The Arab tribes called Abdullah "the sea or the cloud of munificence".
Abdullah was also noted for his standing with Imam Ali (a.s.) in the holy wars (jihad). Ibn Hajar quoted the Prophet (sawaw) as having said that Abdullah was like him in character and had taken him by the right hand and prayed to Allah (swt) to extend His mercy over the household of Abdullah bin Ja'far.
The marriage of Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) did not diminish her strong attachment to her family. Imam Ali(a.s) also felt a great affection for his daughter and nephew and when he became the Caliph of the Muslims and moved from Medina to Kufa, Zainab and Abdullah joined him.
Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) bore four boys by the names of Ali, Muhammad, Aun and Abbas and a girl, Umm Kulthum (as per sibt Ibn-e-Jozi). According to Sheikh Sadooq she had three boys – Ali, Jafer, Aun Akbar – and one daughter – Umm Kulthum.

Janabe Zainab (a.s.) and Imamate
In her life she always saw the evildoers, oppressors, insurgents and breakers of covenants defy the truth and Imam Ali (a.s.), the supporter of the truth and justice had to quell their revolts.  Finally, an evil hand gave Imam Ali (a.s.) a stroke from a poisoned sword on his head in the mosque. After Imam Ali (a.s.), his son Imam Hassan (a.s.) became the Caliph. He was also greatly oppressed until at last he signed a peace treaty with the ruler of that time.  Imam Hassan (a.s.) was poisoned by his treacherous wife, by the order of the Caliph of that time. After him, Imam Hussain (a.s.) became the Imam, but the ruler of Syria violated the peace treaty and appointed his son as his successor and insisted that Imam Hussain (a.s.) should pledge allegiance to him. Imam Hussain (a.s.) refused to pledge allegiance and made up his mind to move to Makkah.
Janab Zainab (a.s.) bode farewell to her husband and went with her brother accompanied by her sons Muhammad and Aun. They reached Makkah in 60 Hijra year.  Imam Hussain (a.s.) was informed that some agents of the ruler of that time had come to Makkah to assassinate him while circumambulating the Holy Ka'bah. Imam Hussain (a.s.) deemed it advisable to move to Kufa and let people know of his secret mission.
They arrived at Karbala on the 2nd Muharram, 61 Hijra. Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) had heard from her grandfather and father that Karbala would be the place where Imam Hussain (a.s.) would be martyred.

Janabe Zainab(a.s.) in Karbala
Zainab (a.s.) is the shining sun in the history of Islam and of humanity. Her brother's name and Karbala associate the idea of freedom, justice, humanity, virtue, fighting against despotism, with the realization of the sovereignty of Allah. The history of Karbala is based on two pillars: the rising of Imam Hussain (a.s.) and the rising of Zainab (a.s.). She was an outstanding figure in the history of Karbala endowed with divine steadfastness and fortitude. She sacrificed her two sons and one should not say anything if one devoted his life for the cause of Allah. After the martyrdom of her brother and her two sons, she said: "0 my Lord! Accept our humble sacrifice to You."
When Zainab (a.s.) reached Kufa, she addressed people with these words: "Praise to Allah, and may the blessing of Allah be upon Muhammad and his progeny. 0 people of Kufa, you are hypocrites and deceitful. You feign to be sorry for the death of my brother and his companions. May you always shed tears. I find nothing in you but flattery, evil acts and thoughts, pride and spite and ill-will. By Allah! You deserve lasting sorrow instead of joy. Shame on you, your hands are imbrued with the blood of the son of the Holy Prophet, the one who was your sole refuge in case of adversity. By your evil act and disloyalty, you incurred the -wrath of Allan against you. Woe betide you! No one will intercede with Allah for you." Her furious words provoked people of Kufa to avenge Hussein's martyrdom. This frightened Ubaidullah and his cruel agents.
She also delivered a furious sermon in the court of the caliph that made his authority and despotic rule feel undermined. She said: "I fear no one but Allah. Make whatever evil plot you can. Blazes are waiting for you in the hereafter. You'll he accountable to Allah for your atrocities."
